Foundant Intelligence Charity Check lets users verify an organization's tax status and standing directly from an organization profile, using publicly available data tied to the organization's EIN or Canadian Business Number instead of a configured third-party verification service such as Candid. Once reviewed, the check can be acknowledged and logged for future reference.
Who: Global administrators and users responsible for reviewing organization due diligence, tax status, or compliance information.
When to Use Foundant Intelligence Charity Check
Use Foundant Intelligence Charity Check when:
- Reviewing publicly available tax-status information as part of an organization's due diligence.
- An organization record already includes an Employer Identification Number (EIN) or Canadian Business Number (BN), and no dedicated verification service, such as Candid, is configured.
- Reporting the verification results is not required.
How Foundant Intelligence Charity Check Works
Foundant Intelligence Charity Check retrieves publicly available data for an organization based on its EIN or BN, including tax status and, where available, IRS Form 990 filings. From the organization profile, a user can review this information and acknowledge that the check was completed. An acknowledgement log records the date of each acknowledgement, so the organization's status at that point in time can be reviewed later.
Data Sources and Limitations
- Data is pulled from public sources, including IRS Pub 78 and the IRS Publication 78 Master File, and 990 filings are gathered from public sources. Foundant Technologies does not independently verify this data.
- EIN and BN must be stored in separate custom fields. The same field cannot be referenced for both, even if a site currently stores both values in one field.
- Organizations with a BN display fewer data points than organizations with an EIN, since fewer public sources are available for Canadian organizations.
- Acknowledgement dates are not currently available as a reportable field or variable. For reporting, list views, or mapping based on verification results, it is recommended to use Candid or another dedicated verification service instead.
