DocuSign tags in the Web Page View custom field HTML configure signer contact details, signing order, and document field placement for e-signatures.
It is recommended that global administrators enable the new syntax. Locate the System Options section in Global Settings, and toggle Enable New Variable Syntax on.
DocuSign Configuration Tags
Place the following tags in the HTML of the Web Page View custom field.
Populate the Email Subject
Add this tag to populate the subject line of the signature request email:
<!--SignatureEmailSubject Place Subject Here-->
Example
Include a variable here, such as the Level 1 name:
New syntax
<!--SignatureEmailSubject {{name}} Test Email Subject-->Old syntax
<!--SignatureEmailSubject @name@ Test Email Subject-->
Populate the Email Body
Add this tag to populate the body text of the signature request email:
<!--SignatureEmailBody Place body text here.-->
Example
Uses the text This is a test for the email body:
<!--SignatureEmailBody This is a test.-->
Configure the Expiration Date
Add this tag to configure the number of days before the signature request expires:
<!--SignatureExpiryDays Insert Numeric Value-->
Example
Sets the expiration to 14 days:
<!--SignatureExpiryDays 14-->
After submission, the document expires after the specified number of days. Signatories cannot access an unsigned document after expiration.
Configure the CC Email List
Add this tag to copy additional individuals on the signature request email:
<!--SignatureCC email;Name,email2;Name2-->
Example
Includes two individuals on the CC list:
<!--SignatureCC abc@fake.com;ABC Smith,qa1@fake.com;QA1-->
DocuSign copies emails to the individuals included in this list.
Configure the Email Language
Add this tag to set the language of the signature request email:
<!--SignatureLocale Language Code-->
Example
Sets the email language, such as en or fr:
<!--SignatureLocale en-->
Configure Email Flow for Multiple Signatories
Add this tag to set the email flow when multiple signatories are required:
<!--SignatureFlow Indicator-->
Example
P (Parallel): DocuSign sends emails to all signatories simultaneously:
<!--SignatureFlow P-->
S (Sequential): each signatory receives the email only after the previous one has signed.
Set the Signature Block Location
Add this tag to set where the Signature Block appears in the document:
<!--SignatureBlock Anchor String-->
Example
Anchors the Signature Block to the phrase Please sign in the document:
<!--SignatureBlock Please sign-->
DocuSign locates the anchor string in the HTML and positions the Signature Block below it. Signatories see a Signature Block to click and sign. If two signatories are present, DocuSign positions the second Signature Block 1 inch below the first. If DocuSign does not find the anchor string or the HTML omits the tag, signatories can place their signature anywhere in the document.
Set the Date Block Location
Add this tag to require signatories to enter a date at a specific location in the document:
<!--DateBlock AnchorString-->
Example
Anchors the Date Block field to the phrase Date of Birth: in the document:
<!--DateBlock Date of Birth: -->
DocuSign locates the anchor string in the HTML and requires the user to enter a date in MM/DD/YYYY format.
Set the Date Signed Location
Add this tag to display the date a signatory signs at a specific location in the document:
<!--DateSigned AnchorString-->
Example
Anchors the Date Signed field to the phrase Signed On: in the document:
<!--DateSigned Signed On: -->
DocuSign locates the anchor string in the HTML and places the date of the signature beside it.
Set the Initials Block Location
Add this tag to set where the Initials Block appears in the document:
<!--InitialsBlock InitialsAnchorString-->
Example
Anchors the Initials Block to the phrase Your Initials: in the document:
<!--InitialsBlock Your Initials:-->
DocuSign locates the anchor string in the HTML and positions the Initials Block below it. If DocuSign does not find the anchor string or the HTML omits the tag, signatories can place their initials anywhere in the document.
Use Dynamic Format
Dynamic Format specifies the positions of different blocks dynamically and generates fillable PDF fields. Add this tag to dynamically position blocks and generate fillable PDF fields:
<!--DynamicFormat 1-->
Signatory Detail Syntax
DocuSign retrieves signatory emails, names, and other details from information embedded in the HTML. SmartSimple uses this information to populate the emails sent to signatories.
The following example uses list syntax to dynamically embed signatories assigned to a role:
[#(?object=contact;criteria=roleid='12527';orderby=firstname) <!--SignatureFlow P--><!--signature ~email~;SIGNER;~firstname~;~lastname~;~Index~;~companyname~-->#]
Example
If three signatories are assigned, the Web Page View custom field HTML includes information for all three:
<!--signature ttest@smartsimple.com;SIGNER;Tony;Test;1;SmartSimple Software --> <!--signature fake@smartsimple.com;SIGNER;Fake;Man;2;Fake Co. --> <!--signature fake2@smartsimple.com;SIGNER;Fake2;Mann;3;Fake2 Co. -->
Generate Fillable PDF Forms for E-Signatures
Web Page View custom fields support fillable forms that export as a system-generated PDF for electronic signatures. Create all fields from the Web Page View custom field template HTML content using the specific DocuSign tag syntax.
