Personal dashboards give each user in SmartSimple a consolidated view of data through a collection of cards. Each card can display a list view, chart, or aggregated data from a specific record set, which provides quick access to the information most relevant to the work of the user. Each user creates and manages their own dashboards.
Who: Global administrators and users
When to Use Personal Dashboards
Use personal dashboards when:
- A visual summary of Universal Tracking Application (UTA)/module data is needed, such as records by type or by status.
- A reusable view is needed to monitor key metrics without running a report each time.
How Personal Dashboards Work
Each user creates and manages their own dashboards from the User Menu. A dashboard is a collection of cards arranged in a layout that is selected when the dashboard is created.
Access by Role
Personal dashboards must be enabled for a role before users in that role can access the Dashboards feature. Once enabled for a role, all users assigned to that role see the Dashboards option in the User Menu.
Global administrators enable this access with the Enable Personal Dashboards setting in System Feature Permissions.
Layouts
Each dashboard uses a layout that determines how cards are arranged. Layout options include single-column and multi-column grid configurations of varying sizes. A dashboard can hold as many cards as the selected layout supports.
How Cards Work
Cards are the building blocks of a dashboard. Each card displays data from a specific entity and record set, and each card renders its data independently.
Card behavior depends on the card type:
- List View cards - Include a search bar and pagination controls, which allow users to search and browse records directly from the dashboard.
- Chart cards - Render the selected visualization using the configured axes and aggregation.
- Aggregate cards - Display a summarized aggregate value for the selected record set.
Each card has an edit [pencil] icon in the top-right corner, which opens the card configuration for editing.
Dashboards as Home Pages
Users can set any of their dashboards as the home page, which makes that dashboard the first page displayed at login.
A dashboard can also be set as the home page within a portal view. In that case, the dashboard appears in the main content area of the portal at login, while the navigation icons remain accessible on the left-hand panel.
