Personal dashboards give each user in SmartSimple a consolidated view of data through a collection of cards. Configuring personal dashboards includes enabling access for a role, creating a dashboard, adding and editing cards, and setting a dashboard as a home page. For definitions of each card setting, see Dashboard Card Settings Reference.
Who: Global administrators and users
When to Use Personal Dashboards
Use personal dashboards when:
- A visual summary of Universal Tracking Application (UTA)/module data is needed, such as records by type or by status.
- A reusable view is needed to monitor key metrics without running a report each time.
Enable Personal Dashboards for a Role
Personal dashboards must be enabled for a role before users in that role can access the Dashboards feature.
To enable personal dashboards for a role:
- Click the System Administration gear in the upper navigation bar, select Global Settings from the drop-down menu, and then click the Security tab.
- Locate the Business Security section, and click System Feature Permissions.
- Click the Features tab.
- Locate Enable Personal Dashboards, and select the relevant roles from the drop-down menu that should have access to personal dashboards.
Once enabled for a role, all users assigned to that role see the Dashboards option in the User Menu.
Create a Dashboard
Each user creates and manages their own dashboards. Access to Dashboards requires the role to be enabled first.
To create a personal dashboard:
- Click the User Menu in the upper navigation bar, and then select Dashboards from the drop-down menu.
- Click New and select Dashboard from the drop-down menu.
- Click the Name field, and enter a name for the dashboard.
- Click a grid to choose a layout option, and then click Save.
The layout determines how cards are arranged on the dashboard. Layout options include single-column and multi-column grid configurations of varying sizes. After saving, an empty dashboard displays with a prompt to add the first card.
Add a Card to a Dashboard
Cards are the building blocks of a dashboard. Each card displays data from a specific entity and record set.
To add a card to a dashboard:
- Click the User Menu in the upper navigation bar, and then select Dashboards from the drop-down menu.
- Click New and select Card from the drop-down menu.
- Click the Title field, and enter a title for the card.
- Click the Type field, and select the relevant option from the drop-down menu.
- Click the Entity field, and select the relevant option from the drop-down menu.
- Enter the relevant information into the remaining fields, and then click Save.
Only record sets that the user has permission to access appear in the Record Set field. When the card Type is set to a chart type such as Bar, Horizontal Bar, or Pie, the X-Axis, Y-Axis, Aggregation, and Customize Chart Colors fields also appear. For definitions of each field, see Dashboard Card Settings Reference.
Edit a Card
Each card has an edit [pencil] icon in the top-right corner, which opens the card configuration for editing.
To edit a card on a dashboard:
- Click the User Menu in the upper navigation bar, and then select Dashboards from the drop-down menu.
- Click the down arrow next to the dashboard name, and select the applicable dashboard to edit from the drop-down menu.
- Click the edit [pencil] icon in the top-right corner of the card.

- Click the down arrow next to the dashboard name, and select the applicable dashboard to edit from the drop-down menu.
