A Universal Tracking Application (UTA)/module creates a record in SmartSimple for tracking programs, projects, or initiatives. Level 2 activity tracking can also be enabled to capture actions or events associated with each Level 1 record.

When to Create a UTA/Module
Create a UTA/module when:
- A custom type of record needs to be tracked in SmartSimple.
- A new program, project, or initiative requires its own dedicated records.
- Existing UTA/modules do not cover the type of item that needs to be managed.
Prerequisite
Global administrator access is required, along with at least one user role already set up to assign as Administrator Access. For information on setting up roles, see Set Up User Roles for a UTA/Module.
Create a UTA/Module
To create a UTA/module:
- Click the System Administration gear in the upper navigation bar, and then select Tracking Applications from the drop-down menu.
- Click the New Application [+] button.
- Click the Application Name field and enter the applicable information.
- For example: IT Asset Tracker.
- Click the Tracking Object Label field and enter the singular label for the Level 1 item.
- For example: Asset.
- Click the Tracking Object Plural Label field and enter the plural form for the Level 1 item.
- For example: Assets.
- Enter any other applicable information, and then click the Security tab.
- Locate the Role Permissions section, click the Application Access field, and select the applicable roles that should have access to this UTA/module.
- Click the Administrator Access field and select the applicable administrator role.
- Add any remaining applicable information, and then click Save.
To access the new UTA/module, refresh the page, click the Menu icon in the upper navigation bar, and then select the new UTA/module from the Applications drop-down menu.
Enable Level 2 Activities on a Level 1 UTA/Module
Level 2 activities represent actions or events associated with each Level 1 record.
To enable a Level 2 activity on a Level 1 UTA/module:
- Click the Menu icon in the upper navigation bar, and then select the newly created UTA/module from the Applications drop-down menu.
- Click the Configuration Settings gear.
- Locate the Features and Extensions section and toggle Enable Tracking Activity on.
- Click the Activity Level field and enter the singular label for the Level 2 activity.
- For example: Service.
- Click the Activity Plural Label field and enter the plural form of the Level 2 activity label.
- For example: Services.
- Click Save.
