The Impact Map is a feature that plots records from a UTA/module onto a map interface, enabling visualization of locations derived from those records. It uses geomapping capabilities and is commonly used to display the locations of grant impacts. For definitions of each setting, see Impact Map Settings Reference.
An Impact Map can be built using either Level 1 or Level 2 records within a UTA/module:
- Level 1 records are displayed on the Impact Map using the location of the organization (standard field: client) associated with the record.
- Level 2 records can be displayed using a unique address defined through Geocode Field Mapping settings.
Who: Users who have admin access to the UTA/module that stores the data you want to present on a map.
When to Use Impact Map
Use the Impact Map feature when:
- You want to visualize the geographic distribution of grants or funded activities.
- Your organization needs to report on or communicate the reach and locations of grant impacts.
- A grant occurs across multiple locations and you need to plot each location individually using Level 2 records.
Configure an Impact Map
To configure an Impact Map using Level 1 records:
- Click the Menu icon in the upper navigation bar, and then select the relevant UTA/module from the Applications drop-down menu.
- Enable the Latitude and Longitude standard fields on your records. Navigate to the record's Standard Fields list and activate these fields if not already enabled.
- Within the UTA/module, click the Configuration Settings gear.
- Click the Level 2 tab, locate the Features and Options section, and then click Impact Maps.
- Click New Impact Map [+].
- Configure the impact map settings using Impact Map Settings Reference.
- Click Save.
- Click Generate HTML and JSON files.
Advanced Configuration for Level 2 Records
A Level 2 Impact Map gives you the flexibility to specify unique addresses for locations and to represent multiple locations for a single Level 1 record. For example, if a Level 1 grant occurs in multiple locations, multiple Level 2 location activities can be created to plot several points on the map.
One method for creating Level 2 location activities is to use an Advanced Data Table custom field on the Level 1 record that is mapped to generate Level 2 records. This allows entry of multiple locations within the field, each of which automatically creates a Level 2 record.
To configure a Level 2 Impact Map:
- Enable the Latitude and Longitude standard fields on the Level 2 object within your UTA/module.
- Create custom fields on the Level 2 object to store address components: Address 1, Address 2, City, State, Country, and Postal Code.
- Click the Configuration Settings gear in the UTA/module.
- Click the Level 2 tab, locate the Features and Options section, and then click Geocode Field Mapping.
- Define the Level 2 custom fields corresponding to each address component.
- Click Save.
