Types classify records within Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 of a Universal Tracking Application (UTA), letting administrators define distinct categories with their own fields, settings, and access controls. Each type determines which custom fields appear on a record, which statuses are available, which roles can access or create the record, and how a Level 2 or Level 3 record displays within its parent.

When to Use Types
Use types when:
- Different categories of records within a UTA/module require distinct custom fields or settings, for example, separating grant review forms from progress reports at the Level 2 activity layer.
- Level 1 records require different types of grants.
How Types Work
Types are configured at the UTA/module level and apply across all records within that UTA/module. Administrators define one or more types for Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3. Each type carries its own settings, including role-based access, available statuses, custom fields, and display behavior.
When a record is created, the user selects a type from a drop-down menu. That selection controls the record's behavior for its entire lifecycle, including what fields appear, what statuses the records can flow through, and who can view or edit the records. Administrators can set one type as the default, so new records are automatically assigned to it unless a user selects a different type.
