The global administrator is a user role in SmartSimple with full access to configure and manage the entire system. Global administrators can manage system security, email integration, and JSON API functions; create users at any level, including other global administrators; establish sub-organizations; define custom fields; and create roles and collaborative workflows. Because global administrators can modify all settings system wide regardless of individual role permissions, it is recommended to limit the number of users assigned this role.

When to Use Global Administrator Privileges
IMPORTANT It is recommended to limit the number of Global Administrators enabled within SmartSimple. Global administrators have the ability to modify all settings system wide regardless of the specific role permissions that have been enabled and assigned to their user profile.
Use global administrator privileges when:
- A new staff member needs full system access to configure and manage the SmartSimple instance.
- An existing global administrator is leaving the organization and their access needs to be removed.
- A user's administrative responsibilities change and their access level needs to be updated.
Enable or Disable Global Administrator Privileges
To enable or disable global administrator privileges for a user:
- Click the User Menu in the upper navigation bar, and then select Profile from the drop-down menu.
- Click the Actions button in the upper row of buttons, and select Edit Roles and Access from the drop-down menu.
- Toggle Global Administrator on to enable global administrator privileges, and then click Save.
- Toggle Global Administrator off to disable global administrator privileges.
NOTE When a new global administrator is created, all existing global administrators in that SmartSimple instance receive an email notification.
