Overview
A dashboard serves as a visual interface that provides users with a comprehensive display of various list views, charts, and aggregated data. This allows users to quickly access and analyze important information in a consolidated format.
To create a new dashboard, start by clicking on the Personal Settings option found within your user profile. This is the initial step to access the dashboard management features.
Next, select the Dashboards option to proceed to the dashboard section.
Then, click the New button to initiate the creation of a new dashboard.
You will be prompted to provide a name for your dashboard and choose your preferred layout format.
After this, an empty dashboard will be displayed, ready for customization.
The New Dashboard window will appear, offering several configuration options.
Each dashboard includes the following key properties:
- Dashboard Name - This is the narrative or descriptive name assigned to the dashboard, helping users identify its purpose or contents easily.
- Description - This field allows you to provide a detailed explanation or summary about what the dashboard represents or monitors.
-
Dashboard Layout - This setting determines the overall orientation and the number of charts that can be included within the dashboard. You have several layout options to choose from:
- One column: This layout supports a single column with 1 row and can accommodate 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 charts.
- Two columns: This layout supports either 2 rows or 3 rows of charts arranged in two columns.
- Three columns: This layout supports a 3 by 3 grid, allowing for 9 charts in total.
Changing the layout orientation will adjust the content area of the dashboard page and influence the number of charts that can be displayed and selected.
- Refresh Interval - This property controls how frequently the dashboard refreshes its data while being displayed. Both built-in and custom charts will be included in the chart list, provided that you have the necessary permissions to view the associated reports based on your user role.
Feel free to experiment with different dashboard layouts to find the one that best suits your data visualization needs.
For example, you can change the Layout to a 1 * 3 configuration, which allows for one column and three rows of charts.
Next, set the dashboard name to System Activity to reflect the focus of the data being displayed.
Then, provide a description for the dashboard to clearly communicate its purpose, as shown in the example below.
After that, select the charts you want to include in the dashboard as illustrated below.
Please note that you will only be able to select charts if you have the appropriate permissions to view the associated reports.
Once you have configured your dashboard, click the Save button to preserve your settings.
To see how your dashboard looks, click the Preview button.
Your dashboard will then be displayed, showing the selected charts and data.
Set a Dashboard as a Home Page
You have the option to designate any dashboard as your home page. This means the selected dashboard will be the first page you see when you log into the system, providing immediate access to your most important data.
To set a dashboard as your home page, simply click the Set dashboard as Home Page checkbox.
There is no need to save this change separately; it will take effect immediately.
Set a Dashboard as a Home Page for Portal View
It is also possible to set a dashboard as the home page within a Portal View. When configured, this dashboard will appear within the main frame of the Portal View whenever users log into the system. Importantly, the navigation icons will remain accessible on the left-hand panel of the Portal View for easy access to other features.
To do this, first obtain the URL of the dashboard you want to set as the home page.
Next, access the Portal where you want to add this home page.
Then, click on the Portal Design tab for the selected Portal to access its design settings.
In the Body section of the Portal Design, paste the following code snippet:
NOTE: Replace the italicized text in the code with the relevant part of the dashboard URL you obtained earlier. Specifically, include only the '/userreport/ur_viewdb.jsp?' portion of the URL and everything that follows it, as demonstrated in the screenshot below.
Finally, click Save to apply the changes and set the dashboard as the home page within the Portal View.
